Queen Camilla gives standing ovation to Wimbledon star Arthur Fery after famous win on Centre Court

Queen Camilla gave Britain’s new tennis star, Arthur Fery, a standing ovation as he secured a famous win on Centre Court.

The Queen watched as Fery, a wildcard entrant to the world famous tournament, pulled off a shock three set victory over Italian Grand Slam finalist, Flavio Cobolli.

Earlier, Queen Camilla had surprised Fery and Crobolli by popping over to say hello to them as they prepared to take to Centre Court and she was on her way to the royal box.

In an unexpected moment, The Queen headed over to both men to shake their hands and wish them both well as they stepped out on to the famous lawns of the All England Club for their quarter final match.

In scorching sunshine, Queen Camilla took her seat with her sister, Annabel Elliot, at her side. Also in the Royal Box were newlyweds, Peter and Harriet Phillips.

Harriet Phillips, already known for her style choices, wore a dress with green stripes and mauve accents, echoing the colours of the All England Club.

This was Queen Camilla’s first visit to the tournament this year, Late last week, the Princess of Wales visited. She enjoyed one of Arthur Fery’s earlier matches at Wimbledon when he was far from a household name. In the first stages of the contest, he was playing on the outside courts and that’s where Kate watched him play.

Arthur Fery will now return to Centre Court on Friday for the semi-finals. He is the first British wildcard to reach the last four of Wimbledon in the Men’s Singles in the Open Era, an historic moment marked by the Princess of Wales in a social media post following his win.

There were also social media congratulations on the main Royal Family channels but both Queen Camilla and the Princess of Wales were keen to make sure the spotlight fell on Fery who will now move into the to 40 in the world after a breath taking run at Wimbledon.

Arthur Fery produced the performance of his career to book a sensational place in the Wimbledon semi-finals, defeating ninth seed Flavio Cobolli 6-4, 7-6(4), 6-0 in front of an ecstatic Centre Court crowd. The British wildcard continued his remarkable fairytale run with a display of fearless shot-making, composure and relentless intensity that left his higher-ranked opponent with few answers.

Fery made the brighter start, breaking serve in the opening set before maintaining his advantage with confident serving and aggressive baseline play. Cobolli responded strongly in the second set, but Fery refused to be rattled, saving key moments before producing an excellent tie-break to move within one set of the last four.

Any hopes of a Cobolli comeback disappeared in the third set as Fery elevated his game even further. Roared on by a partisan home crowd, the 23-year-old raced through the set without dropping a game, sealing victory with a dominant 6-0 finish that underlined his growing confidence on the sport’s biggest stage.

Speaking after the match, Fery credited his belief and determination for his breakthrough fortnight, insisting he has always trusted his ability despite entering the tournament as an outsider. His reward is a blockbuster semi-final against second seed Alexander Zverev, with British fans now daring to dream that one of the most unlikely Wimbledon stories in recent memory could yet have an even more remarkable ending.

There could well be royal support for Fery as he takes on the biggest match of his career. And if he does make dreams come true across the UK then the Princess of Wales is guaranteed to watch him in the final as she presents the trophies to the winners of the Men’s and Women’s Singles competitions.
