NHT addresses tech issues as 2026 refund applications start
· The GleanerThe National Housing Trust (NHT) says its information technology team is addressing challenges being experienced by some contributors attempting to access its online portal to submit applications for refunds of 2018 contributions.
In a notice posted on X on Friday, the trust advised that while system maintenance is under way, contributions refund applications are being accepted via the NHT website only.
“We are aware that some of our customers experienced or may be experiencing challenges accessing the NHT online portal. Our IT team is currently addressing the issue,” the agency said, adding that applicants should continue to submit refund requests through the official website in the interim.
The update comes as the NHT formally began accepting refund applications for the 2026 refund year on January 1. The opening allows qualified contributors to apply for a return of contributions made in 2018, with eligible persons able to submit applications at any time during the year.
All mortgagors whose accounts are up to date are also eligible to apply for refunds of their 2018 contributions.

The NHT had stressed that refund applications must be submitted online only through its official platforms, namely the NHT website at www.nht.gov.jm and the NHT Online portal at online.nht.gov.jm.
Applicants are being urged to ensure that all information submitted is accurate, noting that errors can delay processing or require applications to be resubmitted. Contributors must also have their National Insurance Scheme (NIS) number and Taxpayer Registration Number (TRN) cards available when applying.
According to the NHT, correctly submitted applications are processed within 15 working days. Contributors are also advised not to submit multiple applications unless directed by an NHT representative.
Refunds are currently paid via direct deposit to bank accounts only.
The NHT added that a new mobile application is currently under development and is expected to be launched in the coming year.
