Britain's saddest Christmas tree
by MEGAN HOWE · Mail OnlinePeople have taken to social media to mock some of the saddest looking Christmas trees to have been erected so far this year — as one was even labelled anti-festive.
Seasonal spruces have been popping up in towns and cities across the UK this week as we head into the most wonderful time of the year.
But while some have captured the attention of shoppers with their dazzling decor and bright lights, others have attracted notice for the wrong reasons.
One sorry-looking Christmas tree was spotted by the arrivals board at London Euston station this week.
Decorated with gold baubles and guarded by a plastic barrier, the threadbare tree measures around 180cm.
Talk TV's Chuck Thomas shared a picture of the tree on X with the sarcastic caption: 'This will get everyone in the Christmas spirit.'
The post received over 300,000 views as people were quick to blast the sad-looking Christmas tree, which they described as depressing, pitiful and anti-festive.
One person wrote: 'This can only be one station - Euston. Can that hellhole get any more depressing?'
'This is so sad', said another.
'Nothing says peace and goodwill quite like a plastic barricade,' someone added.
Another person wrote: 'Can we reuse the massive screen for a festive scene maybe santa and his sleigh can run across it every 15 mins or something more festive than that sad tree attempt.'
Another person added: 'It gets to point when you have to say why bother.'
Other people joked about the sorry state of the tree, saying it 'looks like it's still hiding from bonfire night' and 'let's not overdo it lads!'.
Meanwhile, over at the Coal Drops Yard near King's Cross Station, one woman said she had her 'Christmas cheer stolen from her so fast' when she looked at the tree erected there.
Ellen filmed her reaction for TikTok and said: 'I'm about to show you the Christmas tree. I don't get it. What is this?'
Taking to the comments, one person joked: 'It looks like it was made on Microsoft paint,' while another person said 'it's giving Tate Modern Christmas'.

The abstract tree looks more like an Isosceles triangle and has been painted in non-traditional Christmas colours of fluorescent pink, blue, green, orange, yellow and pink.
Earlier this month, a mother hit out at 'nasty' trolls on social media as they said her Christmas tree was the 'worst they'd ever seen'.
Joanne Rayworth's post on Facebook revealing her festive decorations received over 11,000 likes.
However her patience was severely tested after a minority of users criticised her tree, which she said took her over six hours to finish.
Joanne, from Fleetwood near Blackpool, told MailOnline that she understood criticism but was hurt by 'spiteful comments.'
She said: 'If someone does not like my tree yes that is fine. They are entitled to their opinion.
'But to describe it as tacky and cheap is just wrong. I tried not to lose my temper because some of the comments made me very angry.
'One person said it was the worst tree she had ever seen. Really? That was just spiteful and hurt.'
Joanne works at Gee Tee's, a homeware store in Fleetwood which also sells seasonal decorations from the end of September each year.
The mother posts pictures of her festive centrepiece online every year, but said this was the first time it had attracted such attention.
But one user remarked that early November was too early for festive decorations.
They wrote: 'You have it up already? Thought it was bad luck to put it up before Dec 1?'
Others said it was not 'traditional' enough.
One woman wrote: 'It's screaming live laugh love.'
Another said: 'Doesn't look Christmasy at all.'
One woman wrote: 'Don't see Christmas when I look at this at all, but it is pretty.'
Another said; 'Lovely colours, but it doesn't represent Christmas in my eyes. I'm more traditional x'
