Love Island's Tasha Ghouri exploring Pakistani roots in new BBC doc
by CONOR O'BRIEN, TV REPORTER · Mail OnlineLove Island and Strictly Come Dancing alum Tasha Ghouri is exploring her Pakistani roots in a new TV show.
The star, 27, is appearing in the new series of BBC Two show Pilgrimage - and has since been inspired to to go on another journey with her father Tarek.
It would see the pair trace their family history in South Asia, having never really spoken to her dad about their heritage.
Speaking to The Sun's TVBiz column, Tasha said: 'A documentary is in the works.
'It's something I really want to explore and share that journey with people as well.
'There are a lot of people out there in a similar position and I think sharing that maybe might help other families open those doors as well.'
Continuing, she noted although a production company is lined up, no further details have been confirmed at this time.
Tasha admitted she and her father 'never really spoke about our Pakistan heritage', but they recently decided to 'have a chat'.
She explained: 'There was a lot of family politics back in the day.
'My grandad came over from Pakistan when he was younger and he wasn't a practising Muslim.
'He met my nana, who was British, and they got married and had my dad and my aunties.
'What is interesting is my grandad's family are practising Muslims and they live in Pakistan, but we don't have contact with them any more.'
After finding 'old school letters' and 'black and white photos' at home, they decided it was time to 'try and find other family members'.
Tasha added that she has felt 'embarrassed' by how little she knows about her family.
She said: 'I feel embarrassed when people say to me, 'Where's your last name from?' I say Pakistan and that's it. That's all I know.
'I want to be able to say to my future kids, 'This is the family history and this is who you are.'
Elsewhere, Tasha admitted the ‘ableism’ she faced on Love Island still affects her today.
The influencer was born completely deaf and received a cochlear implant at the age of five.
Speaking at a screening of BBC’s Pilgrimage: The Road To Holy Island, Tasha said: ‘I suffered with ableism whilst I was on a reality TV show. People use your disability as their point to hate somebody.
‘It still gets to me now. It was literally three years ago, but it still gets to me. I think it’s because I saw the impact it had on my family.’
She joins actress Patsy Kensit, 58, Diversity star Ashley Banjo, 37, Cold Feet actress Hermione Norris, 59, and presenter Jayne Middlemiss, 55, as they embark on a five-day pilgrimage across North Yorkshire, County Durham and Northumberland.
Following ancient routes associated with figures such as St. Cuthbert, the group travels through dramatic landscapes before reaching the Holy Island of Lindisfarne.
In the first episode, Tasha shares a warm bond with Patsy, telling her: ‘I think you’re an incredible woman, like you really are, you’re so strong, you’re so forceful, empowering.
‘I’ve learned so much from you already, and I can’t wait to learn more from you.’
Patsy, in turn, offers the younger star some hard-earned advice about love, saying: ‘You don’t have to marry all your boyfriends!’
Tasha first found fame on the eighth series of ITV’s Love Island in 2022, where she met Andrew Le Page.
The influencer previously told the Daily Mail that ‘everything is thrown at you after a show like that, good and bad.’
She added: ‘There was the trolling and ableism, but also the brand deals. It felt like a volcano.’
Following their success on Love Island, Tasha and Andrew went on to buy their first home together and begin renovations before splitting last year – a shock to fans after Andrew was seen supporting Tasha in the audience while she was starring on Strictly Come Dancing at the end of 2024.
The break up soon turned bitter, with Andrew, 31, accusing Tasha of being on celebrity dating app Raya while they were in a relationship.
Tasha is now in a relationship with her boyfriend, BBC presenter Cam Whitnall, after striking up a romance last May.
