Meet the British couple who have been to Benidorm more than 100 TIMES
by ALESIA FIDDLER - TRAVEL REPORTER · Mail OnlineHordes of tourists flock to Benidorm each year to soak up the sun and enjoy affordable food and drink.
But for some, one trip isn't enough – and they find themselves returning to the Spanish hotspot time and time again.
British couple Roger, 75, and Sue Topp, 74, from Leicester, have enjoyed holidays together in Benidorm for 35 years - totalling to 130 visits.
During this year alone, the pair have spent seven breaks in Benidorm and are about to jet off from East Midland's Airport on December 23 for their eighth. They first went to the popular spot in 1987.
They have spent so much time in the European destination that they see it as their 'second home'.
'We used to do UK holidays, but it was always a gamble with the weather, then we came to Benidorm once and that was it,' Roger says.
'It's friendly, clean, safe and the value is unbelievable. You can get a glass of wine for one to two euros and a full meal for less than you'd spend on a takeaway back home.'
Roger and Sue urge others to give Benidorm a chance and say: 'Ignore the stereotypes. It’s one of the friendliest, best-value places you can visit, something for every age and budget.
'If you don’t enjoy Benidorm, you’ve only yourself to blame.'
The couple, who have been married for 55 years, enjoy spending the festive season at their favourite hotel in Benidorm and avoid the dreary UK weather.
'The first time we tried Christmas over there, we were blown away,' Roger explains.
'The Rio Park Hotel puts on a feast for us, its breakfast, a huge traditional Christmas lunch, entertainment all day, and you can have as much wine and beer as you like.
'It's brilliant and takes away so much stress, that's why we've always loved TUI holidays.'
Over the years, Roger and Sue have spent so much time in sunny location that they practically raised their children there.
These days, they spend long winter breaks in the Spanish hotspot and have plenty of local spots they enjoy visiting.
Puento De Oro is their favourite Chinse buffet and Roger says, 'We love the Chinese buffet out there, you can get plates piled high and unlimited drinks for €19.
'The food is fresh, delicious and amazing value. We go there all the time, sometimes there are big groups of 20 of us who are Benidorm regulars.'
For tapas, they head to Zodiac, located near their favourite hotel.
'There is a tapas bar called Zodiac right near the Rio Park Hotel, and it does the most delicious sixplates of tapas and a bottle of wine for €9,' he adds.
'You really can't beat that. We go back time and time again because the quality is amazing and it's a great price.'
