Charlotte's fashion tribute to mother Kate at Christmas

by · Mail Online

Proving beyond any doubt that she is her mother’s mini-me, there was a full-circle moment this Christmas as Princess Charlotte stepped out at Sandringham.

The young royal was wearing a beautifully tailored Catherine Walker coat, complete with a velvet collar and cuffs and neat contrasting buttons.

It was a look that immediately stirred memories, not just for its timeless elegance but for the striking way it echoed one of the most important moments in her mother’s life.

The striking silhouette was unmistakable.

From the perfectly cut coat to the dark brown tights and polished Tory Burch shoes, Charlotte’s ensemble mirrored the outfit Kate wore at her very first royal engagement all those years ago.

Back then, Kate’s coat was by Katherine Hooker, while Charlotte’s was designed by Catherine Walker, one of her mother’s most trusted designers.

Yet despite the different labels, the hallmarks were identical, understated sophistication, impeccable tailoring and a quiet confidence that spoke volumes without shouting for attention.

Kate’s own introduction to royal life took place on a blustery February day in 2014 in a small coastal village in North Wales.

It was a moment heavy with expectation, following years in which she had carefully stepped back while navigating life as Prince William’s girlfriend.

When she finally emerged in an official capacity, her poise was instantly apparent.

The coat, the calm smile, the effortless way she carried herself, it set the tone for the Princess of Wales she would later become.

Now, as Charlotte begins to make her own carefully measured steps within royal life, she appears to be channeling that same energy, guided gently and thoughtfully by her mother.

At just ten years old, Charlotte already carries herself with a grace that feels far beyond her years, and nowhere is that more evident than in her clothing.

On Christmas Day, Charlotte’s outfit looked as though it had been lifted straight from the stylebook of a young Kate Middleton.

There was nothing flashy or forced about it. Instead, it was classic, appropriate and perfectly pitched, reinforcing the sense that Charlotte is being allowed to grow into her role naturally, with her mother as both guide and example.

Another milestone moment came just a day earlier, when Kate’s Together at Christmas carol service was aired to the nation, and an unexpected poignant musical interlude came from the royals.

Seated side-by-side at a Steinway piano, the mother-daughter duo performed a tender four-hand arrangement of “Silent Night,” offering a rare, intimate glimpse into their close bond.

Dressed for the occasion, the Princess of Wales wore a festive midnight blue velvet dress, and naturally Princess Charlotte wore a coordinating outfit.

Their matching looks were as harmonious as their piano playing.

This is not the only time that Charlotte has looked like her mother’s mini-me recently. When arriving for the carol service, Charlotte dressed in a navy dress with white collar which was a mirror of the Alessandra Rich dress her mother wore a few months before.

Another striking similarity was her hairstyle, with Charlotte recreating one of Kate’s famous looks.

Her hair was swept off her face into a half-up look with the ends styled in loose waves, clipped back with a large velvet bow adding a touch of festive magic. It was an exact copy of Kate's hairstyle when she attended a concert to mark the 80th Anniversary of VE Day.

What makes these moments so compelling is not just how alike mother and daughter look, but how naturally it all seems to unfold.

Charlotte is not being dressed up or pushed forward prematurely. Instead, she appears to be absorbing her mother’s example through everyday moments. The result is a young princess who already understands the quiet strength of understatement.

Kate herself has long been praised for striking the perfect balance between tradition and modernity, and it seems she is instilling those same values in her daughter. Charlotte’s clothes nod to royal heritage while remaining practical.

In Charlotte, we see not only the future but a reflection of the past. Coming full circle, she is stepping forward with the same quiet assurance that once defined her mother’s earliest moments on the royal stage.
