Driver airlifted to hospital after car hit by train on level crossing

Emergency services were called to the scene on Tuesday afternoon after reports a train had struck the vehicle on the rural crossing at Richborough near Sandwich, Kent.
The man, who has not yet been named, was airlifted to a specialist hospital in London in a life-threatening condition. Police are now investigating the collision.
A British Transport Police spokesperson said: 'Officers were called to the line near Sandwich at 4.32pm yesterday following reports that a train had struck a car at a level crossing in Richborough.
'Officers attended, alongside paramedics, and a man was airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries.
'There were no other injuries reported, and enquiries are ongoing into the circumstances leading up to the collision.'
Train services were delayed while investigations were carried out at the scene.
