These Halo: Campaign Evolved Mods Bring Back the Classic Cortana

by · DSOGaming

A lot of players were disappointed with how Cortana looks in Halo: Campaign Evolved. Furthermore, some did not like the additional lines she got in the remake. And, as always, modders have managed to restore her.

So, we now have two must-have mods for everyone who wants the classic Cortana. The first mod restores Cortana’s face in all six pre-rendered cinematics to match the original concept art.

The second mod restores Cortana’s lines from Combat Evolved in their almost entirety, plus all of the hand-holding lines have been outright removed.

With these two mods, Cortana will look and sound just the way you remember her. So, if you are a die-hard Halo 1 fan, you should definitely get them. You can download them from here and here.

Speaking of Halo: Campaign Evolved, another must-have mod is this one, which enables local split-screen co-op on PC. The PC version of Halo: Campaign Evolved shipped with the entire code for local split-screen co-op mode, even though there is no in-game setting. So, modders were able to enable it so that you can play with your friends on one PC.

I also highly recommend using these custom commands to disable Chromatic Aberration and Film Grain. Halo: Campaign Evolved does not have any in-game setting to disable them. And, honestly, the game looks bad with them. By removing them, you will greatly improve its visual presentation.

I should also note that even though there is an in-game setting for Mouse Smoothing, mouse movement felt weird. It did not feel like pure 1-1 mouse movement. Only when I used the custom mouse settings was I able to get proper raw mouse movement.

Halo: Campaign Evolved is using Unreal Engine 5.5, and it’s one of the few UE5 games that looks and runs great on PC. The game has very minor traversal stutters, and it can run with over 60FPS on a wide range of PC systems.

Anyway, it’s good to see an active modding community for this new Halo game. So, I’m curious to see what they will come up with next.

Stay tuned for more!
