Fan Is Bringing Halo 5: Guardians’ Single-Player Campaign to PC

Now here is something really cool. GitHub’s ‘danielmccluskey’ is currently working on a project that aims to bring the single-player campaign of Halo 5 to the PC. So, let’s take a look at it.

Halo 5 Campaign on PC is a small fan project that aims to get the Halo 5: Guardians campaign running on PC. It uses the existing Halo 5: Forge PC build as a base. The project is still very early and experimental, but it can already run the first two campaign missions.

The project currently supports the Osiris and Blue Team missions. Players can use a custom launcher to prepare the required game data and start the campaign. The launcher works with extracted Halo 5 game files and creates the cache needed to run the game. A complete cache can also be used without keeping the original game dump.

The project is made for Windows x64 PCs. It also requires the Halo 5: Forge Bundle from the Microsoft Store and a copy of the required Halo 5 game files. These files are not included with the project.

The main goal is simple: get the original Halo 5 campaign working on PC. The project does not aim to bring Halo 5’s multiplayer, matchmaking, or Xbox services to PC. In other words, it will solely focus on the single-player campaign.

It’s a real shame that we never got Halo 5: Guardians on PC. Microsoft did release Halo 5: Forge on PC, but that was only the Halo 5 editor. So, I don’t know what Microsoft was thinking. Perhaps the cost of porting the campaign was too high for a game that did not sell well?

So, given that Halo 5’s campaign was not well received, I don’t expect to see it come to PC anytime soon. Officially, that is. In a few years, Microsoft may remake or remaster it for its platforms. However, that could take a long time. Until then, we may get remakes of Halo 2, Halo 3, and Halo 4 instead. And if we don’t, you can be sure we won’t get a remake of Halo 5.
