Here’s Resident Evil Requiem with Path Tracing on AMD GPUs

by · DSOGaming

Last month, Capcom released Resident Evil Requiem on PC. The game is using the RE Engine, and it supports Path Tracing on PC. However, Path Tracing is only available for NVIDIA users. But AMD users have figured out a way to run Path Tracing on AMD GPUs. So, here’s your first look at Path Tracing on AMD GPUs.

To enable Path Tracing on AMD GPUs, you had to do a simple edit to the config file. Once you had opened it, you could set the RayTracingSetting to “PathTracing_Standard”. And that was it.

Sadly, this trick no longer works with the latest version of Resident Evil Requiem. However, you can find a video below that shows off the previous version of the game with it.

As you will see, there are some visual issues with this trick on the AMD GPUs. Still, it’s quite cool to see RE: Requiem running on the AMD hardware with Path Tracing.

In terms of performance, an AMD Radeon RX 9070XT can run the prologue area with 44-50FPS at 4K with FSR 4.0 Performance Mode. At 1440p, the AMD Radeon RX 9070XT manages to push framerates over 60FPS.

It’s also interesting to note that these results are without AMD FSR 4.0 Frame Gen. So, with Frame Gen, the game could run smoothly on the AMD Radeon RX 9070XT, even at 4K.

From what I know so far, Capcom does not plan to enable Path Tracing to AMD GPUs. At least for now. And that’s a bummer because Path Tracing brings a major image improvement to Resident Evil Requiem. So, it sucks that AMD users cannot use it.

Furthermore, the latest version of OptiScaler can now let you use AMD Ray Regeneration in games that support NVIDIA DLSS Ray Reconstruction. So, in theory, AMD users could use it to improve the game’s image and get better results than what we see in this video.

But anyway, as I said, this is a really cool concept video. It’s not perfect, but I’m certain a lot of AMD fans will find it cool. So, be sure to watch it if you are one of them. And let’s hope that Capcom will work with AMD to offer official Path Tracing support for the AMD Radeon GPUs.

Enjoy!
