Alan Wake 2 will be the first game to support RTX Mega Geometry
by John Papadopoulos · DSOGamingNow here is something that passed under my radar. Last week, NVIDIA revealed RTX Mega Geometry, one of the new features of its RTX GPUs. And, according to the green team, Alan Wake 2 will be the first game that will support it.
RTX Mega Geometry accelerates BVH building, making it possible to ray trace up to 100x more triangles than today’s standard. RTX Mega Geometry intelligently updates clusters of triangles in batches on the GPU. This will reduce CPU overhead and increase performance and image quality in ray traced scenes. Plus, NVIDIA claims that this will reduce VRAM consumption.
So, in theory, Alan Wake 2 will look and run better with RTX Mega Geometry. So, I’m really curious to test it once the NVIDIA RTX 5090 comes out. The game will support it at launch, and there will be an in-game setting to enable/disable it.
It’s also worth noting that Alan Wake 2 will get a new Ultra Quality Mode for Ray Tracing. This new mode will add fully ray traced refractions and fully ray traced transparent reflections. It will also improve the quality of the fully ray traced indirect lighting. Do note that this Ultra Mode will only be compatible with NVIDIA RTX GPUs with Resolution Upscaling set to DLSS enabled.
Finally, both RTX Mega Geometry and this new Ray Tracing Ultra Quality Mode will be supported by ALL RTX GPUs. So yes, even those with an RTX 4090 will be able to use them.
NVIDIA will release the RTX 5080 and the RTX 5090 on January 30th. According to some early performance results, the RTX 5090 will be around 30-40% faster than the RTX 4090.
We’ll have more to share in the coming days. So, stay tuned for more!

Still, the PC platform won him over consoles. That was mainly due to 3DFX and its iconic dedicated 3D accelerator graphics card, Voodoo 2.
