Gears of War Redux Overhaul Mod Released on PC

by · DSOGaming

Gears of War fans, here is something cool for you today. Modder ‘PunishedWolfOG’ has released Gears of War Redux. Gears of War Redux is a community overhaul of Gears of War 1 on PC that adds the content and quality-of-life improvements the original release never got.

Going into more details, Gears of War Redux adds maps from GW2 and custom community maps to the rotation and custom community maps. It also adds Horde mode, Horde+, KOTH, Guardian and TDM.

What’s also cool here is that the mod adds split-screen co-op support. As such, you can play the entire campaign mode with a friend on one PC. Not only that, but we get split-screen local multiplayer support for every multiplayer mode.

Bots now have adjustable difficulty in every multiplayer mode. Plus, there is a Last Stand Horde toggle. When you enable it, the wave ends when the last human dies. There is also an in-game chat system. And, in case you’re wondering, yes. We also have support for full keyboard rebinding with split cover/evade keys.

Furthermore, there are some tech improvements. For instance, we get support for DirectX 10 and DirectX 11. We also get ultra-wide support (21:9 / 32:9) with proper FOV.

Before closing, I should note that this mod is for the original PC version of Gears of War. It’s not for the Reloaded Edition. So, make sure to keep that in mind. The visual enhancements that came with the Reloaded Edition are nowhere to be found.

All in all, this is a must-have mod for the first Gears of War game. However, I’m not sure how long this mod will be available for download. You see, Gears of War Redux comes with its own launcher. Nothing wrong here, numerous mods have their own launchers. However, Gears of War Redux will download the whole game from the launcher. It does not require the original game to be installed on your system.

What I’m implying is that you should download it right now, while it’s still up. NexusMods or Microsoft may take it down in the near future.

Have fun!
