PS5 Emulator SharpEmu v0.0.4 release.2 Is Now Available for Download

by · DSOGaming

The team behind the second-best PlayStation 5 emulator, SharpEmu, has released a new version of it. SharpEmu hits a new milestone as it’s now able to run 12 games, and 6 of them are playable at 60 FPS.

From what I’ve seen, the games that are playable at 60FPS are Tomb Raider IV-VI Remastered, Tetris Forever, Hoa, Dreaming Sarah, Terrarium and New Joe & Mac – Caveman Ninja.

At this point, I should note that this does not mean that these games can be played from start to finish. Some of them may have crashing issues at later stages. Still, it’s good to know that they can hit 60 FPS on the emulator.

As you will see, none of these games are very complex. In short, SharpEmu is still behind KyTyPS5. KyTyPS5 has made huge progress and is now well ahead of SharpEmu. Still, this does not mean the SharpEmu devs should stop working on it. In my opinion, this challenge should give them even more reason to keep improving the emulator.

Going into even more detail, release.2 is a small update for SharpEmu 0.0.4 that adds several fixes and improvements to the emulator. The update improves Vulkan support and adds support for the VK_EXT_shader_viewport_index_layer extension. It also fixes some shader and graphics issues.

The new version also brings a few useful changes to the user interface. Players can now turn off Vulkan implicit layers through the GUI or command line. The update also adds console settings and language selection. There are also fixes for Gen5 runtime paths and shader buffers.

Under the hood, SharpEmu v0.0.4-release.2 also fixes an AMD file cache issue and improves SPIR-V shader handling. These changes should help the emulator work with more games and hardware over time. SharpEmu is still an experimental project, so crashes and broken games can still happen.

Those interested can download this latest version of SharpEmu from here. Just make sure to temper your expectations. You won’t be able to run Demon’s Souls Remake at 60 FPS with it. KyTyPS5 will most likely be able to achieve this first.

Sadly, I could not find any video for this latest version of SharpEmu to share.

Stay tuned for more!
