by · Greek City Times

The village of Taxiarchis in Halkidiki will officially launch Greece’s Christmas celebrations on Saturday, November 7, with the lighting of its 15-metre Christmas tree.

The ceremony will take place at 8pm in the village square, continuing a long-standing tradition that has established Taxiarchis as one of Greece’s first destinations to welcome the festive season.

Known as the village of fir trees, Taxiarchis once again takes the lead in marking the approach of Christmas, celebrating its longstanding connection with the cultivation and production of Christmas trees.

According to an announcement issued by the Municipality of Polygyros, the lighting ceremony will form part of a major celebration in the central square, featuring music, lights, surprises and festive entertainment for visitors of all ages.

The Municipality of Polygyros and the Taxiarchis Municipal Community have invited residents and visitors to attend the event and experience the village’s Christmas traditions.

Several local organisations will participate in the celebrations, including the Taxiarchis Cultural Association, Taxiarchis Youth Association, Holomontas Sports Club, Taxiarchis Women’s Association and the Association of Taxiarchians Living Elsewhere.
