The cruise ship Queen Anne, carrying 2,841 passengers, made an emergency call at Souda Port in Chania late on Wednesday, September 30, as worsening weather approached Crete.
The ship entered the port to shelter from the severe weather conditions expected to affect the area.
The Queen Anne will spend the night at Souda Port and is expected to depart once conditions improve and it becomes safe to continue its voyage.
According to local reports, the worsening weather could lead to further emergency cruise ship arrivals at Souda, whose port provides shelter for vessels facing adverse conditions.
Despite its unscheduled arrival, the Queen Anne was the fourth cruise ship to reach Chania on Wednesday, significantly increasing activity at the port and across the wider area.
