The world’s largest sailing cruise ship, the magnificent Club Med 2, has arrived in Chania, Crete, creating a spectacular sight as it entered the city’s historic Venetian Harbour.

The impressive five-masted vessel sailed to Chania from Agios Nikolaos, where it had been docked the previous day, bringing more than 2,700 passengers and crew members to explore one of Crete’s most famous destinations.

A Floating Palace with Five Masts

Measuring 187 metres (614 feet) in length, the Club Med 2 is a unique combination of traditional sailing elegance and modern cruise ship luxury.

The vessel features five towering masts supporting approximately 2,500 square metres of computer-controlled sails, which can be deployed automatically in less than two minutes.

Since its launch in 1992, the ship has remained one of the most recognisable sailing vessels in the world, attracting attention wherever it docks.

Its arrival in Chania’s Venetian Harbour drew crowds of locals and visitors, with many stopping to admire the striking silhouette of the luxury sailing yacht against the backdrop of the historic waterfront.

Luxury at Sea

Built in France, the Club Med 2 offers an exclusive all-inclusive cruise experience for up to 386 guests across 164 cabins, supported by a crew of more than 200.

The ship’s eight decks feature elegant lounges, restaurants, swimming areas and entertainment spaces inspired by famous Mediterranean destinations, including Cannes, Saint-Tropez, Monte Carlo and Portofino.

Guests enjoy sea-view accommodation, fine dining and a refined atmosphere that combines French elegance with international hospitality.

A Mediterranean Maritime Icon

For more than three decades, the Club Med 2 has maintained its reputation as the world’s largest sailing cruise ship.

During the summer months, the vessel cruises through the Mediterranean, Aegean and Adriatic seas, while its winter itinerary takes it to the Caribbean. Seasonal transatlantic crossings connect the two regions each year.

The ship’s visit to Chania highlights Crete’s growing importance as a destination for luxury tourism and premium cruise experiences, bringing international travellers directly into the heart of one of the island’s most historic cities.
