The Patras-Pyrgos motorway has been named Greece’s Project of the Year for 2025 at the 9th Infrastructure and Transport Conference – ITC 2026, held at the Athens Concert Hall International Conference Centre.

The award recognised the project’s development impact and its expected role in the wider region.

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport received the award as the contracting authority and implementation body, alongside Olympia Odos as the concessionaire and the construction companies that form the APION KLEOS consortium — TERNA, AKTOR and AVAX.

Konstantinos Makedos, president of the TMEDE and chairman of the scientific committee that selected Patras-Pyrgos as Project of the Year, said the committee unanimously chose the motorway because of its development footprint and the role it will play in the region. The public also participated in the selection through a vote.

Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Nikos Tachiaos highlighted the political intervention required to reintegrate the project into the Olympia Odos concession. He then invited Infrastructure Secretary General Dimitris Anagnopoulos to accept the award.

“The Patras-Pyrgos motorway was a project with a long and particularly difficult journey,” Tachiaos said. “Major projects are completed when planning is accompanied by determination, institutional consistency and cooperation.”

The motorway took approximately 3.5 years to complete.

It includes 75 kilometres of controlled-access motorway, with two lanes and an emergency lane in each direction, as well as 15 bridges, nine interchanges and 64 crossings.
