The authentic hospitality, cuisine, history and natural landscapes of Epirus will reach German-speaking television audiences through the award-winning German programme “Kitchen Impossible”, which filmed across the region from 17 to 20 August 2026.
The German National Tourism Organisation (EOT) office in Germany organised the initiative in close cooperation with the Municipality of Ioannina, which hosted the German production team during its stay.
A television crew from German broadcaster VOX, led by journalist Hannah Alice Kugel, completed filming for the popular programme, including a culinary challenge featuring a renowned chef and a traditional local dish.
Under the programme’s established format, the participating chef had to identify and recreate a traditional local dish using the ingredients contained in the show’s characteristic “black box.” Without a recipe or outside assistance, the chef sourced the ingredients independently and prepared the dish before a 10-member local jury familiar with the authentic recipe evaluated the result.
The approximately 35-minute programme will also devote substantial airtime to Epirus, presenting its landscapes and cultural character to viewers across the DACH market — Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
Filming included:
- Ioannina: The production captured views of the city and its historic Old Town.
- Konitsa: The crew filmed activities including rafting on the Aoos River in the Bourazani area, as well as the Aoos Gorge and the imposing Konitsa stone bridge, one of the region’s most notable single-arch bridges.
During their stay, the journalists and production team also visited the Municipality of Ioannina’s tourism office and town hall, where they met with Deputy Mayor for Tourism Eleftherios Tatsis.
Ioannina Mayor Thomas Begas also visited the filming location and met with representatives of the programme. He expressed his satisfaction at the opportunity to showcase the region to an international television audience.
The production forms part of efforts to increase Epirus’ visibility in the German-speaking tourism market, using television exposure to highlight the region’s gastronomy alongside its natural and cultural attractions.
