US Central Command says the vessel ignored repeated warnings before an American military aircraft struck its stern in the Gulf of Oman.

US forces have struck and seized a merchant vessel in the Gulf of Oman after it allegedly attempted to breach the US naval blockade of Iran, according to US Central Command (CENTCOM).

The incident occurred on November 7, when the merchant ship M/V Huda reportedly ignored repeated warnings from American forces and continued towards an Iranian port.

CENTCOM said a US military aircraft fired precision-guided munitions at the vessel’s stern, disabling it and preventing it from continuing its journey.

American forces had previously ordered the civilian crew to abandon the targeted areas of the ship before carrying out the strike.

The operation forms part of Washington’s ongoing efforts to enforce its naval blockade of Iran.

According to CENTCOM, US forces have diverted 147 commercial vessels since the blockade began, while five cargo ships have been seized after refusing to comply with instructions.

The US military said it would continue enforcing the restrictions against vessels attempting to enter or leave Iranian ports.
