Airport Taxi Fares to Rise in Athens and Thessaloniki

Taxi fares for journeys between Greece’s major airports and city centres are set to increase, while the basic taxi fare and €4 minimum charge will remain unchanged, according to sources at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport.

The changes are expected to take effect in the coming days after the relevant decision is published in the Government Gazette (FEK).

Under the new rates:

• The fixed fare from Athens International Airport “Eleftherios Venizelos” to central Athens will increase from €40 to €50 under the single tariff and from €55 to €65 under the double tariff.
• The fixed fare from Thessaloniki Airport “Makedonia” to central Thessaloniki will rise from €25 to €28under the single tariff and from €35 to €38 under the double tariff.
• The special hourly waiting charge will increase from €15 to €20.
• The maximum waiting fare that drivers and passengers can agree freely will rise from €25 to €40.

The ministry sources stressed that the basic single and double taxi tariffs will not change, while the €4 minimum fare will also remain unchanged.

The changes follow consultations and discussions between the ministry, the Panhellenic Federation of Taxi Owners (POEIATA) and the Attica Taxi Drivers’ Union (SATA).
