Turkey increased its air activity over the Aegean on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, recording 15 violations of Greek national airspace and 10 violations of air traffic rules, according to official Hellenic National Defence General Staff (GEETHA) data. The figures marked the highest daily total in two months, following a dogfight between Greek and Turkish fighter jets west of Kastellorizo the previous day.
The activity represented the busiest day since August 18 and significantly exceeded the daily highs recorded in September. The latest incidents have raised concerns over increased Turkish military activity along Greece’s northeastern and southeastern Aegean airspace.
Tensions had already risen on Monday, October 5, when a pair of armed Turkish F-16s remained in the Athens FIR after Greek forces identified them. Greek fighter jets scrambled to intercept the aircraft, leading to a simulated dogfight west of Kastellorizo as the Greek aircraft sought to force the Turkish jets to leave the area.
Tuesday’s activity also stood out because Turkey deployed a mix of aircraft rather than relying almost exclusively on unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), as it had done during previous weeks.
The Turkish formation included seven aircraft, among them two armed F-16 fighter jets. A CN-235 maritime patrol aircraft accounted for six airspace violations and two air traffic-rule violations, while four UAVs recorded a further nine violations and seven violations of air traffic rules.
Military analysts cited in the report said October has shown an increasingly active pattern, with 40 Turkish airspace violations recorded in just six days.
The figure already approaches the totals recorded during entire months earlier in the year. Greece recorded 28 violations in January, 32 in February and 42 in March.
The return of armed F-16 formations, the aerial engagement west of Kastellorizo and the continued UAV activity have prompted the Greek Armed Forces to maintain a high level of readiness as Turkish military flights continue across the Aegean.
