Two fires break out in Messinia, Agrinio

Two fires broke out on Thursday afternoon in the region of Messinia, in the Peloponnese, and near the town of Agrinio, in western Greece, the Fire Department said.

A contingent made up of 20 firefighters, one unit on foot, and five fire engines were dispatched to the rural area of Ariohori, near the town of Kalamata, where the blaze started amid low vegetation, while two water-dropping aircraft are supporting the efforts.

The Messinia Arson Crime Investigation Team is also at the scene to investigate the causes of the blaze.

A smaller fire broke out in Agios Floros, Messinia.

The second blaze was burning grassland in the Megali Chora area of Agrinio, where 25 firefighters with nine fire engines and two aircraft were mobilized to extinguish it.
