Air Canada Extends Athens Flights to Toronto and Montreal Into January 2027

Air Canada is expanding its Athens operations, extending direct flights to Toronto and Montreal further into the winter as demand for travel between Greece, Canada and North America continues to grow.

The airline announced the expanded schedule at a press briefing in Athens, saying its Athens to Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) and Athens to Montréal Trudeau International Airport (YUL) services will operate deeper into the traditional winter period.

The move supports efforts by the Greek Ministry of Tourism and Athens International Airport to strengthen year round connectivity and reduce the seasonal gap that has traditionally affected direct services between Greece and Canada.

Air Canada will extend its non stop Athens services into January 2027 before a short winter pause. Flights will resume earlier than usual on March 6, 2027.

During the peak summer season, the airline plans to operate up to 11 weekly flights between Athens and Toronto and 10 weekly flights between Athens and Montreal.

Canada’s Ambassador to Greece, Sonya J. Thissen, welcomed the expansion, highlighting the importance of stronger air links between the two countries.

“More flights create more linkages between both countries, benefitting families, business travellers, students, and tourists who are at the heart of relations between Canada and Greece,” Thissen said.

Air Canada Regional Director for Greece, Italy and Cyprus Stefano Casaregola said demand from the Greek market has increased significantly.

“Greece is performing exceptionally well, with a 13.5% increase in year over year traffic and a near doubling of shoulder season demand,” Casaregola said.

He said Air Canada’s decision to deploy widebody aircraft and extend the operating season would provide travellers with more consistent direct access to North America and the Caribbean while supporting tourism during traditionally quieter months.

Ioanna Papadopoulou, Director of Communications and Marketing at Athens International Airport, described the expanded schedule as a strong endorsement of Athens and the Greek market.

“We are really excited with Air Canada’s decision to extend its operating season to and from Athens,” Papadopoulou said.

She also pointed to the longstanding ties between Greece and Canada and the role of the Greek diaspora in strengthening connections between the two countries.

The extended schedule will provide additional options for family visits, business travel, student travel and tourism, while strengthening Athens’ links with North America.

Air Canada highlights premium cabin

During the Athens briefing, Air Canada also showcased its three cabin aircraft configuration, including its premium Air Canada Signature Class.

The cabin features fully lie flat executive pods, direct aisle access and chef curated menus, targeting premium business and leisure travellers on transatlantic routes.

The Athens services also provide connections beyond Canada to major US destinations, including New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Passengers connecting through Canadian hubs can also benefit from US Customs preclearance, allowing eligible travellers to complete US border formalities before continuing to their final destination.

The expanded schedule strengthens Athens’ position as a year round gateway between Greece, Canada and the wider North American market, while giving travellers more direct options outside the traditional summer season.
