IndiGo Spotlight Campaign Elevates Syros, Paros and Kimolos
by Paul Antonopoulos · Greek City TimesA targeted promotional push through IndiGo’s onboard magazine has successfully raised the profile of three Cycladic islands—Syros, Paros and Kimolos—among Indian audiences, generating follow-on coverage in major national and lifestyle publications.
The month-long campaign ran across IndiGo’s international network in May. Organized with support from the islands’ tourism consultants MTC Group, it presented Syros, Paros and Kimolos as distinctive, less-crowded alternatives for visitors looking for genuine Greek island experiences rather than purely mass-tourism destinations.
The exposure quickly translated into editorial attention. India Today published an in-depth piece on Syros under the headline “Syros: Greece’s Gift to the World,” focusing on Ermoupoli’s neoclassical architecture, the island’s seafaring past and its unspoiled character. Condé Nast Traveller India featured both Syros and Paros in its 2026 recommendations for alternative Greek island escapes, praising their mix of culture, relaxed beaches and evening life. The Times of India highlighted Kimolos and Paros as under-the-radar Aegean gems.
MTC Group notes that the results underline the rising importance of the Indian market for Greek destinations. India’s growing middle- and upper-income travelers are increasingly spending more on quality accommodation, dining and shopping. The country is also a significant source of destination weddings and honeymoon traffic. Indian visitors tend to take longer trips and frequently travel outside the peak summer period, helping extend the tourism season into spring and autumn. Data from the Greek tourism research institute INSETE further shows that India has one of the highest proportions of travelers who plan five or more international trips each year.
Improved air links between Greece and India, developed through partnerships that include Aegean Airlines and IndiGo, are seen as another key factor supporting longer-term growth. Additional promotional activity for Syros, Paros and Kimolos is already in the pipeline. By placing the three islands in front of IndiGo’s large passenger base and then securing high-profile media coverage, the campaign has given Syros, Paros and Kimolos a valuable introduction to a fast-expanding long-haul market.
