Greece has issued a NAVTEX for operational scenarios as part of the multinational Medusa 26 air and naval exercise, involving Egypt, France, Italy and Cyprus.

According to the navigation warning issued by the Heraklion station, authorities have designated a maritime area in the southeastern Cretan Sea for exercises on September 9, 2026.

During the midday hours, strong air and naval forces will conduct complex operational scenarios, with authorities advising vessels to avoid the designated area and its specified coordinates.

The location carries particular strategic significance. The exercise area lies along the axis covered by the Turkish-Libyan memorandum, which Greece and the international community have rejected as invalid.

Medusa 26 will continue through September 19, with the exercise in the area serving as a practical response to what Athens views as Ankara’s revisionist ambitions in the region.

Through the NAVTEX and the multinational exercise, Greece is reaffirming its sovereignty and sovereign rights in the area while highlighting its role as a pillar of regional stability and security.

The participation of allied forces also underlines Greece’s operational readiness and its commitment to strengthening cooperation through joint training and military exercises.
