From Greek Roots in Andros to Jordan’s Royal Family

Dimitris Thermiotis was not born into royalty. Born in Caracas, Venezuela, in 1994 and raised in a Greek family, he studied in the United States before building a career in business and finance.

Today, however, his name is closely linked to Jordan’s royal family after he married Princess Iman, the daughter of King Abdullah II and Queen Rania.

The man once known as Dimitris is now known as Jameel Alexander Thermiotis, the husband of Princess Iman. The couple now have three children.

On August 14, 2026, the Royal Hashemite Court announced that Iman and Jameel had welcomed twin daughters.

A few days later, their names emerged: Talia and Rania. The couple named their second daughter after her grandmother, Queen Rania.

The man with the Greek surname and a family history rooted in a Cycladic island now stands at the heart of one of the Arab world’s best-known royal families.

Greek roots in Andros

Dimitris Thermiotis’ story does not begin in Caracas. To trace his family’s Greek origins, one must travel back to Andros.

His grandfather, Dimitrios Thermiotis, was born on the island in 1922. The family had links to shipping, and according to foreign reports, he left for Latin America after World War II in search of a new life.

Venezuela eventually became the country where he established his business career. Dimitrios Thermiotis developed a significant presence in the country’s business community and became associated with the French fashion house Diorand its activities in Venezuela.

Some accounts specifically credit him with introducing Dior perfumes to the Venezuelan market.

Despite the family’s move overseas, Andros remained an important link to Greece.

The family returned to Greece from time to time and maintained its connection with its ancestral home. The family patriarch visited Andros with his wife and children, with one of their last known family visits taking place in 2017.

Their visits included Panachrantos Monastery, where Dimitrios Thermiotis maintained a close relationship with Elder Evdokimos.

In 2023, Elder Evdokimos described the Thermiotis family as an exceptional family that he had known for 50 years. He also recalled their regular visits and expressed his disappointment that Dimitris had converted from Christianity.

A family connection to Dior

The family’s connection with Dior took on a striking new dimension decades later.

When Dimitris’ grandson married Princess Iman, the bride chose to wear Dior for the royal wedding.

Iman appeared on March 12, 2023, in a specially designed white Dior gown featuring lace around the neck and sleeves, along with a long veil.

International publications, including Spain’s Hola and El País, linked her choice of Dior to the groom’s family history and his grandfather’s business association with the French fashion house in Venezuela.

A family name that began in Andros, travelled to Latin America and eventually reached a royal wedding in Amman had once again crossed paths with Dior through the next generation.

From Caracas to the United States

Dimitris Thermiotis was born and raised in Caracas. He is the son of Alexandros Thermiotis and Corina Hernándezand has two siblings.

The family maintained its Greek identity, while Dimitris followed a different path from the previous generation.

He moved to the United States, where he studied Business Administration at Florida International University.

He later entered the investment and business sectors and became associated with Outbound Ventures, a New York-based venture capital firm. His professional activities extended between the United States and other markets.

He therefore had an established professional career before he entered Jordan’s royal family.

Meeting Princess Iman

Thermiotis met Princess Iman in the United States, where both had spent significant parts of their lives.

The couple kept their relationship largely out of the public eye for an extended period, avoiding the constant media attention that often surrounds members of royal families.

In July 2022, however, the Royal Hashemite Court officially announced Iman’s engagement to Jameel Alexander Thermiotis.

The announcement also brought wider attention to the Greek background of the man chosen by the daughter of Jordan’s king.

From Dimitris to Jameel

His new life also came with a new name.

Dimitris Thermiotis became Jameel Alexander Thermiotis. Reports at the time said that he had grown up in a Christian environment but converted to Islam before marrying Iman and adopted the name Jameel.

The Jordanian royal court now officially identifies him as Jameel Alexander Thermiotis.

In its 2023 wedding announcement, the Royal Hashemite Court referred to the marriage between Princess Iman and Jameel Alexander Thermiotis.

Marriage to King Abdullah’s daughter

On March 12, 2023, Iman and Jameel married at Beit Al Urdun Palace in Amman.

The Royal Hashemite Court confirmed the wedding in the presence of King Abdullah II, Queen Rania and members of the royal family.

Iman’s choice of Dior for her wedding dress attracted particular attention because of the groom’s family connection to the fashion house.

She wore a custom creation by Maria Grazia Chiuri, while Queen Rania also chose a Dior creation for the occasion.

For Jameel, the significance of that day therefore extended beyond the symbolism of a royal wedding. His family’s journey from Andros to Venezuela had unexpectedly intersected with the royal family of Jordan and, once again, with the Dior name.
