Ankara seeks new route for S-400s after reported Israeli block on UAE deal

Turkey and Russia had agreed to transfer Ankara’s S-400 air-defence systems to the United Arab Emirates, according to Haber7, in a move meant to ease the way for the lifting of US CAATSA sanctions and Turkey’s return to the F-35 programme.

The same report said Israel pressed the UAE not to take the systems, because it does not want Turkey back in the F-35 programme.

Haber7 said Ankara has since drawn up a new formula to get around that Israeli objection, and that the plan may have US support. The report did not name the alternative destination or set out how Washington would be involved.

Turkey was removed from the F-35 programme and hit with CAATSA sanctions after it took delivery of Russian S-400s. Washington has long said the systems are incompatible with NATO and F-35 operations.
