Performances to blend youth, culture and green message

Mysuru: This year’s ‘Yuva Sambhrama’ will feature students from more than 300 colleges presenting programmes aimed at creating awareness about ecological conservation.

The eight-day ‘Yuva Sambhrama’ will be held from Sept. 28 to Oct. 5 at the Open Air Theatre in Manasagangothri under the theme ‘Green’. The Yuva Sambhrama Sub-Committee is also bringing out a special invitation made from seed paper.

To create awareness among students, the Sub-Committee will erect a green pergola on the stage. The organisers will also promote the message ‘Say no to plastic’.

Students have been instructed not to use plastic materials during their performances and the Sub-Committee has also informed College Principals about the same at a recent meeting.

The eight-day event will feature ‘Mahileyarige Namana’, a programme to recognise the achievements of women. An event showcasing the folklore of different States and countries is also being planned.

Students from more than 20 Universities, PU colleges, undergraduate, engineering, medical and nursing colleges across the State will participate. Each University will send a team to the event.

To ensure an opportunity for colleges and Universities across the State to participate, the Sub-Committee had launched a web portal to receive entries. With the deadline for submitting applications having expired, the selection process will now be taken up.

“Last year, the time allotted for each performance was cut short towards the end. This year, students will be given an opportunity to complete their performances. Separate mobile toilets for men and women will be arranged and preference will be given to students travelling from distant places to perform,” said R. Aishwarya, Additional DC and Deputy Special Officer of Yuva Sambhrama Sub-Committee.

“Selfie zones will be set up at the venue and an LED screen will be installed near the Centenary Clock Tower in Manasagangothri. The Sub-Committee will ensure that students are provided quality food, drinking water and other basic facilities. Designated parking areas will be created at the venue to avoid congestion,” she added.
