Public throng Jumboo Savari route to stamp elephant dung

Mysuru: Public and visitors, who are thronging the Jumboo Savari route to have a glimpse of their favourite Dasara elephant while they are being taken on a walk everyday, are also waiting for an opportunity to stamp on the elephants’ dung.

While some people collect the poop & take it home, some remove their footwear and stand on it. The dung is considered to have medicinal properties which can reduce pain and swelling in legs, cool down body temperature and help cure heat boils or minor skin infections.

Elephants eat a host of leaves and are provided with nutritious food with some of the leaves having medicinal properties, which could be the reason behind people standing on dung so that it can cure certain illness. People were also seen collecting the dung in plastic bags and taking it home.
