Passengers escape unhurt as KSRTC bus battery catches fire
by Author · Star of MysoreMysore/Mysuru: A major accident was narrowly averted last evening when the battery of a KSRTC city bus caught fire near the South Gate of the Mysore Palace.
At around 6 pm, thick smoke suddenly engulfed the bus (KA-42-F-1974).
Sensing danger, the driver immediately pulled the vehicle to the side of the road, evacuated the passengers and disconnected the battery wires, preventing a serious accident.
Speaking to Star of Mysore, the bus driver, Pavan, said that dense smoke began filling the bus while it was in motion. On checking, he noticed flames near the battery compartment.
Though the middle door failed to open despite repeated attempts, passengers were safely evacuated through the front door. With the help of members of the public, the fire was brought under control. Authorities have praised the driver’s presence of mind and swift action, which helped avert a potential disaster.
