Kolkata's Iconic Flurys Lands In Delhi NCR: An Exclusive First Look And Honest Review
Kolkata's must-visit cafe Flurys has opened its doors in Gurugram. Is the place serving just nostalgia or genuine good food? We went to find out.
· NDTV FoodSome food names instantly spark nostalgia. For Kolkata, Flurys is one of them. For generations, the iconic Park Street tearoom has been woven into the city's everyday life, known for leisurely breakfasts, elegant pastries and bakery treats that have stood the test of time. Now, after almost a century, that legacy has finally arrived in North India.
Flurys has opened its first North India outlet at Galleria Market in Gurugram, marking a major milestone ahead of the brand's centenary in 2027. NDTV Food got exclusive first access to the cafe, and after spending an afternoon eating our way through the menu, one thing became clear: Flurys is selling much more than baked goods. It is selling a feeling.
The Look And Feel Of Flurys In Gurugram
The signature bright pink signage catches your eye long before you step inside. Nestled within the charming, open-air setting of Galleria Market, Flurys feels perfectly at home among the European-style walkways, boutique stores and buzzing cafes.
Inside, the space is cheerful yet understated. Soft pink accents, cosy seating and neatly arranged display counters create an inviting atmosphere that encourages you to slow down. It feels polished without trying too hard.
One detail we particularly loved was the little red labels on several items in the display. These mark recipes that have been part of Flurys' heritage menu since before the 1970s, making them the cafe's true classics. If you're visiting for the first time, start there.
What We Ate
The Vegetable Puff surprised us the most. Often an overlooked bakery staple, this one was exceptional. The pastry was beautifully flaky, while the mixed vegetable filling was savoury, well-seasoned and generously packed. It may just be one of the best vegetable puffs we've had.
The Corn Puff, shaped almost like a muffin, was another standout. Filled with creamy cheese and sweet corn, it was comforting, indulgent and wonderfully satisfying.
The Chicken Patty kept things simple in the best way possible. Packed with plenty of tender chicken, it delivered clean flavours without being overly seasoned. It's the kind of snack you'll finish before you even realise.
Those looking for something heartier should go for the Mutton Puff. Filled with flavourful minced mutton, it offers a richer, bolder bite while still letting the buttery pastry shine.
Then came the bakery classics.
The Almond Croissant had beautifully crisp layers with a buttery, flaky texture, filled generously with marzipan and finished with sliced almonds and a dusting of icing sugar.
Flurys' iconic Milk Loaf deserves every bit of its reputation. Soft, pillowy and lightly sweet, it tastes exactly like the kind of fresh bread that disappears slice by slice before it even reaches the dining table. Simple, but incredibly comforting.
The Lemon Tart balanced sharp citrus curd with a buttery biscuit shell, delivering just the right amount of sweetness.
One of the most memorable desserts was the Nolen Gur Creme Brulee, served in a traditional clay bhar. The smoky caramel notes of Bengali date palm jaggery blended beautifully with the silky French custard, creating a dessert that felt both familiar and inventive.
The Classic Millefeuille had delicate layers of crisp puff pastry with smooth vanilla cream, while the Strawberry Cube Pastry combined soft vanilla sponge with strawberry buttercream for an easy crowd-pleaser.
What impressed us throughout wasn't just the recipes but the ingredients. Whether it was the butter in the pastries, the softness of the bread or even the finishing dusting of icing sugar, everything tasted thoughtfully made. Nothing felt rushed or artificial.
Perhaps that's why the experience feels unexpectedly emotional. Even if you've never visited the original Flurys in Kolkata, there's something unmistakably nostalgic about the aromas drifting through the cafe. It reminds you of neighbourhood bakeries, simpler mornings and freshly baked treats that filled the house long before food became an Instagram moment.
Exploring The Beverage Section
The beverage menu is surprisingly extensive, mixing timeless cafe favourites with more contemporary offerings.
The Cold Coffee was rich, creamy and pleasantly coffee-forward without becoming overly sweet, thanks to the combination of freshly brewed coffee, vanilla ice cream and chilled milk.
The Iced Chocolate instantly transported us back to childhood. Thick, chocolatey and deeply comforting, it tasted like an elevated version of the cold chocolate milk many of us grew up drinking.
Among the hot beverages, the Flurys Mocha struck a lovely balance between espresso and chocolate, creating a smooth, indulgent cup.
The Flurys Viennese Coffee, finished with a generous swirl of whipped cream, was equally satisfying and perfect for those who enjoy a richer coffee experience.
Our Verdict
A new cafe opening is usually marked by a push towards all things new, trendy and inventive. We expect the menu to be unique, modern and edgy. But when a legacy brand arrives in Delhi NCR, people know that while they are entering a 'new' store, within its four walls lies a rich history, culture, legacy and oodles of nostalgia.
The food is great, the milk bread speaks for itself, and the simplicity is intentional. Flurys may just have found a lovely new home in Gurugram.
