New 'binge-worthy' Netflix series leaves viewers 'yelling at the TV'
by Peter Harris · ChronicleLiveA fresh arrival on Netflix has viewers hooked, leaving them 'yelling at the TV', according to recent reports. The Norwegian series, a departure from the usual yuletide offerings, has sparked quite the stir among its audience.
It is set in the festive period and the synopsis says: "It's Christmas and high season when a Norwegian family checks into their favourite hotel on the island of La Palma. But beneath the idyll, a danger lurks. A young Norwegian scientist discovers alarming signs about the volcano located in the centre of the holiday paradise.
"She must convince her colleagues that the worst-case scenario is about to happen. If the volcano erupts, a mountain mass the size of Manhattan might erupt into the sea and cause the largest tsunami the world has ever seen. Will the family manage to escape the disaster of ash, gas and lava in a fight for their lives? " This series, reminiscent of a disaster movie, is soaring up the UK's top ten most-watched charts on Netflix, securing third place, trailing only to recent hits like the spy-themed Black Doves and the intense No Good Deed.
While the show leverages the dramatic potential of the Cumbre Vieja, the Canary Islands' most active volcano, it takes a leap from reality – it is not rooted in fact. The last real eruption was in 2021, but this show is pure fiction through and through, placing emphasis on drama over documentary, reports Surrey Live.

Although it hasn't garnered enough critic reviews to score on Rotten Tomatoes yet, audiences have begun sharing their views. An early binge-watcher expressed online: "This show is SO binge-worthy. The visuals are absolutely stunning, and it's exciting from start to finish. Loved it", as noted by the Mirror.
Meanwhile, another viewer commended the series for its visuals and narrative: "La Palma delivers stunning visuals, compelling characters with each there own unique stories, and nonstop suspense throughout the series. It's an exciting, well-crafted mini-series that keeps you hooked from start to finish."
Adding to the wave of early praise, another commenter was caught by surprise with the series' quality: "The show was a positive surprise for me. I didn't think I would enjoy it as much as I did. Well written and directed and a nice overall message on climate change. Some scenes were too slow and redundant but overall I definitely recommend it, if you enjoy the genre."
However, feedback wasn't all one-sided, with some viewers taking issue with certain plot elements, particularly the ending. One frustrated viewer shared their reaction: "Lots of me yelling at TV - 'get out of there now, why doesn't that plane take off? , don't get off that plane.'".
Additionally, the show struck an emotional chord with some audience members, one of whom shared online: "I'm over here balling my eyes out and rose over here just a humming ..10/10."
