Take a look at a series of photos as North East charities came together to provide Christmas dinner at Newcastle Cathedral on Friday. The annual event ensures that some of the most vulnerable people in the city don't go hungry during the festive season.

Changing Lives has joined forces with North East Updates, the Oswin Project and the cathedral to support people across the region, as it has done for over 50 years. The charity started within the issue of homelessness, but its reach extends far beyond by supporting people to become self sufficient in the long term.

This Christmas Meal Appeal invited people across the North East to donate just £5 to provide a warm, nourishing Christmas meal for someone less fortunate. The meals were served between 12-3pm on Friday, December 19, at Café 16 inside the cathedral.

The café itself is staffed by people who have been caught up in the criminal justice system, offering them training, support, and employment opportunities, and helping them to rebuild their lives with a sense of dignity and purpose.

Stephen Bell OBE, Chief Executive of Changing Lives, said: "Christmas should be a time of warmth, hope, and belonging, but for too many people across the North East it can feel lonely, cold and uncertain.

"By donating just £5, you can make sure someone has a hot meal and a welcoming place to be this Christmas. Together with our incredible partners, we’re asking the people of the North East to come together and share the spirit of Christmas".

You can still donate to Changing Lives and the crucial work that the charity does by visiting the donation page on the website here.
