Newcastle United squad revealed for Crystal Palace as Eddie Howe weighs up changes
by Stuart Jamieson · ChronicleLiveNewcastle United kick off a huge week with some fire in their bellies after their frustrating defeat to West Ham on Monday. After two strong Premier League performances against Arsenal and Nottingham Forest, head coach Eddie Howe was disappointed they allowed another three points to pass them by against the Hammers.
However, today's game against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park presents the ideal opportinity for United to get back to winning ways - with Liverpool at St James' Park in midweek and then a trip to Brentford to come next weekend.
Howe has one addition to Monday night's squad, with Dan Burn welcomed back after serving a one-match ban for collecting five yellow cards. He could come straight back into the side to replace Lloyd Kelly and resume his partnership with Fabian Schar.
Bruno Guimaraes and Joe Willock will have late fitness tests after both were forced off with injuries against West Ham. Both have travelled with the squad, however, and Howe is optimistic they will be involved today. Willock was pictured in training earlier this week while Brazilian Bruno will be assessed.
Sandro Tonali is on standby to start, although Howe could switch things up by restoring Joelinton to a midfield role and starting Harvey Barnes should Bruno be ruled out. However, Lewis Miley has not travelled after playing for the Under-21s last night.
Up top, Callum Wilson will continue to press Alexander Isak for a starting role, but after so long on the sidelines, will start from the bench at Selhurst Park, alongside young striker Will Osula. That leaves the likes of Jacob Murphy, Miguel Almiron and Matt Targett to make up the bench in what is a strong squad for Howe.
Newcastle United squad vs Crystal Palace: Pope, Dubravka, Vlachodimos, Ruddy, Trippier, Livramento, Schar, Burn, Hall, Kelly, Targett, Guimaraes, Tonali, Longstaff, Joelinton, Willock, Barnes, Murphy, Almiron, Gordon, Osula, Wilson, Isak.
