Sunshine, heavy rain and near-freezing temperatures in North East weekend weather forecast
The region is expected to see clear skies and downpours within hours of each other, with chilly mornings feeling below freezing
by Catherine Addison-Swan · ChronicleLiveThe North East can expect a very mixed weekend of autumnal weather that will see periods of sunshine and downpours in quick succession.
According to the latest forecast from the Met Office, the weekend will get off to a bright start in the region on Saturday (October 12) before outbreaks of rain arrive into the afternoon and evening. The forecast for Newcastle sees the weather turning from clear skies and sunshine at 9am to heavy rain by 1pm, with temperatures just making it into double figures at highs of 11°C.
Sunday (October 13), meanwhile, will get off to a cold start across the North East, with Newcastle expected to be just 2°C at 7am that due to fresh winds will feel more like -1°C, forecasters said. However, despite the chill Sunday is expected to be a largely fine and dry day for the region, although cloud will increase later in the day.
The early outlook for the start of next week predicts that the North East will stay dry on Monday, with outbreaks of rain and fresher winds expected Tuesday. Here's what the hour-by-hour forecast for the weekend looks like in Newcastle.
