Two children taken to hospital after crash on Newcastle Central Motorway

Two children have been taken to hospital after a crash on the Central Motorway in Newcastle.

Emergency services were called to a section under the canopy of the A167(M) close to Newcastle city centre shortly before 2.30pm on Sunday afternoon. The road was closed southbound between the A1058 exit for The Coast Road and the A186 at Swan House Roundabout.

Two adults and two children were taken to hospital, and another two people were treated for their injuries at the scene. Tyne and Wear Fire Service were also present, but left at 3.15pm when they were no longer required.

A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: "We received a call at 14.25 today (November 24) to a road traffic collision on A167 in Newcastle. We dispatched four paramedic crews and and a clinical team to the scene.

"Two adults and two children were treated and conveyed to hospital. Two others were treated on scene and discharged by our crews."

ChronicleLive has approached Northumbria Police for comment.
