Fan zone photos capture the excitement, nerves, celebrations and sorrow on Tyne-Wear Derby Day
by Nicole Goodwin, Craig Connor · ChronicleLivePhotos capture the excitement, nerves, celebrations and sorrow of Derby Day on Tyneside as football supporters gathered in fan zones across Newcastle to watch the big game. St James' STACK and Digital were just two of the fan zones packed out in the city on Sunday morning.
The great atmosphere as the match got underway at 12pm and the crowd erupted when Anthony Gordon secured an early lead for Newcastle. But there was little for Newcastle fans to celebrate when Sunderland claimed back victory in the second half, taking the final score to a 2-1 win for the Black Cats.
ChronicleLive photographer Craig Connor was out and out in the city on Derby Day and captured these photos of fans watching the match. And why not take a look at our gallery from inside St James' Park and our gallery of photos taken before the big game too.
