Tribute to 'much-loved' Whitby son who died in Redcar crash as man arrested

The family of a young North Yorkshire man who died in a collision on the A174 in Redcar have paid tribute to him. Jack Nixon, from Whitby, sadly died following a collision near to Greystones roundabout in Redcar on Friday.

The 28-year-old's family described him as a "much-loved son, brother, nephew, grandson and friend". Paying tribute to him in a statement released through Cleveland Police, they said that he will be "sorely missed". The family has asked for privacy as they grieve together.

A spokesperson for Cleveland Police told our sister website Teesside Live: "The collision occurred at around 3.15pm on 15 November 2024 and involved a black BMW X5, silver Mercedes and a bronze Seat Leon. A man, aged 28, has been arrested in connection with the collision."

Police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or anyone with dash cam footage to contact Cleveland Police by calling 101, using the reference number SE24218779. Emergency services including the Great North Air Ambulance were called to reports of a collision involving a pedestrian and a car.

The westbound carriageway was closed from the Greystones roundabouts to Ormesby Bank until around 1am on Saturday. A spokesperson for the North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called to a road traffic incident involving a car and a pedestrian on the A174 Parkway, Normanby shortly after 3pm on Friday. We dispatched two double crewed ambulances, a clinical team leader and requested support from the Great North Air Ambulance Service."

A spokesperson for the Great North Air Ambulance said: "A critical care team flew to the patient and was on the scene at 15.24. We worked alongside the North East Air Ambulance to treat the patient."
