Offer made to Manchester United – Club go public with transfer effort
by Sean Lunt · Sport WitnessTrabzonspor have made an offer to Manchester United to loan Andre Onana next season but are waiting from a response from Old Trafford.
Africa Foot report comments from Turkish journalist Yunus Emre Sel today. He has discussed Onana’s situation on his YouTube channel.
Trabzonspor success
Andre Onana has spent the season on loan at Trabzonspor after Manchester United made it clear the 30-year-old is not a part of their plans moving forwards.
He has made himself a firm fan favourite at the Turkish club, with 29 appearances in the league, 34 goals conceded and six clean sheets. He’s featured in the starting XI 97% of the time and played in 94% of the available minutes.
His loan deal expires in the summer, but Trabzonspor are keen to sign him again. Indeed, their president made their stance clear in recent comments, which Sport Witness reported on.
Indeed, he has been busy praising the Manchester United loanee again this week. And making it clear they want to keep him.
“Our coach’s opinion on Onana is also positive,” Sports Digitale report him saying.
“He’s also supporting the development of the young players behind him. Our intention is to keep Onana on the team.”
Now it appears an offer has been made, and for now, they want another loan deal. That’s at least according to Yunus Emre Sel’s information.
“Trabzonspor has made a loan offer to Manchester United for Onana and is awaiting a response,” he said.
“Manchester United, for their part, are considering selling him along with his permanent transfer, but for now, no club seems as enthusiastic about the player as Trabzonspor.”
Manchester United decision
It remains to be seen what Manchester United want to do with Andre Onana this summer. His current deal expires in 2028, so this summer is the ideal one in which to secure a sale.
Sanctioning another loan deal this summer would be a risky venture. That is, unless, the deal includes an obligation to buy for Trabzonspor or any other buyer.
There’s also a question of price. Onana is currently valued at €12m. That means Manchester United face losing a big chunk of the face losing a big chunk of the €50.2m they paid in 2023.
With Senne Lammens now in place as number one, perhaps that is not something they’re overly concerned about. But whether Trabzonspor can convince them, isn’t yet clear. They’ve at least made a bid to get the ball rolling.
