‘Most interested’ Manchester United in the lead for signing – Price gives Red Devils edge over competitor
by Naveen Ullal · Sport WitnessManchester United have Elche CF’s David Affengruber on their target list for the summer.
On April 24th, Sport Witness covered claims from Spain that Manchester United are in the mix to sign him. The same source reported of the La Liga side setting a €20m price.
Earlier this month, we relayed news of Villarreal, Atlético Madrid, Sevilla and Real Betis are challenging the Red Devils in the chase for the centre-back.
With multiple clubs keen, a fierce battle could take place to acquire his services in the upcoming window.
Manchester United interest backed up
The 25-year-old’s suitors list continues to grow as new clubs join the battle.
That’s according to Tutto Juve, who cover Manchester United when reporting the latest on the Serie A interest. The outlet makes it clear it’s their own information.
Juventus and AC Milan are pursuing a deal for the defender, and the two clubs are closely monitoring his situation.
David Affengruber’s defensive qualities and ability to ‘build play from the back’ seem to please the Serie A duo. From Spain, Atlético Madrid and Sevilla are in the picture.
However, Manchester United are in the lead and are the ‘most interested’ club to sign the player.
Michael Carrick’s side have been monitoring the defender for some time and gathered positive reports about him.
Affengruber joined Elche CF on a free transfer in August 2024, after spending three years at Sturm Graz. His development in Spain has convinced the Premier League side.
Elche have no intention of parting ways with their prized asset but may find it difficult to retain him. The Spanish club are looking to collect €30m while Juventus don’t want to offer more than €20m.
Price shouldn’t be issue for Manchester United
David Affengruber’s contract expires in 2027, and Transfermarkt value him at €9m.
Earlier claims from Spain said Elche CF want €20m while Tutto Juve now report the price is around €30m.
The La Liga side could be forced to settle for a lower amount to avoid losing him for free in 2027.
Either way, Manchester United shouldn’t find it difficult to pay €20-30m for the Austrian. Juventus refusing to offer more than €20m should give the Old Trafford club an edge in the transfer race.
Affengruber played 38 matches this season.
