Mourinho working on snatching signing from Manchester United’s clutches – Mendes in the mix
by Naveen Ullal · Sport WitnessManchester United face a Real Madrid threat in the chase for West Ham United‘s Mateus Fernandes this summer.
Last week, Sport Witness covered claims from Portugal that West Ham have set an €80m price as Liverpool join Manchester United in the hunt for the midfielder.
Casemiro has left Old Trafford and Manuel Ugarte’s future is uncertain. The Red Devils made advances to sign Atalanta’s Éderson and are looking to sign at least one more midfielder.
Manchester United have the West Ham player on their agenda and face competition from Real Madrid.
Having won re-election at the weekend, president Florentino Pérez will appoint José Mourinho as his new manager.
Manchester United made move for West Ham star
Mateus Fernandes impressed for Nuno Espírito Santo’s side this year, despite them being relegated from the Premier League.
This, coupled with co-owner David Sullivan resigning as join-chair has created a crisis at West Ham United. This encourages the 21-year-old’s suitors to take him away from the London club.
Tuesday’s edition of AS covers Manchester United and Real Madrid interest in the former Southampton man.
Michael Carrick’s side have already made the first move but have to be wary of Los Blancos, mainly because of José Mourinho.
He appreciates the Portugal international and is confident his compatriot can develop further. The coach believes Fernandes is yet to peak but still wants him at Real Madrid.
Jorge Mendes represents the West Ham player and Mourinho, and is already working to take the former to Real Madrid.
Fernandes is the priority target for Mourinho and although the super-agent is in the mix, the operation won’t be easy.
AS state: ‘Mourinho wants commitment without sacrificing quality, qualities that Fernandes more than fulfils. He demonstrated in the recently concluded season. The deal is underway, and the player who was once a dark horse has now become one of the top targets.’
In short, the manager, via Mendes, is working on snatching Fernandes from Manchester United’s clutches.
Red Devils must convince player
Michael Carrick’s side will win the battle if they convince Mateus Fernandes to pick them over others.
If that were to happen, it’ll only be down Manchester United finding an agreement with West Ham United. However, it won’t be easy, especially with Jorge Mendes’ involvement.
The Portuguese midfielder’s contract expires in 2030, and Transfermarkt value him at €50m.
