Newcastle United ‘offer best deal’ for signing – Summer move to Magpies gains most traction
by Naveen Ullal · Sport WitnessNewcastle United want to sign a forward, after selling Anthony Gordon to Barcelona for €80m in May.
The Premier League side have identified CA Osasuna’s Víctor Muñoz as the main target and are keen on signing him.
On Thursday, we relayed news Newcastle United are serious about the winger and are getting closer to his €40m clause.
Later that day, Sport Witness covered claims from Spain that he’s close to joining the Magpies for €35m plus €5m bonuses.
The Spain international is in America for the World Cup and Newcastle United are planning to conduct his medial in Atlanta.
No formal offer from Newcastle United
Cope Pamplona journalist Alberto Sanz claims the 22-year-old continues to attract interest from several clubs.
As of now, there’s been only verbal offers and no written proposals. The La Liga side, for their part, continue to refer to his €40m release clause.
Amid interest from several clubs, Newcastle United appear to be frontrunners as they ‘offer the best deal’.
On Thursday, claims from elsewhere reported the Magpies’ €35m bid and Víctor Muñoz giving his approval to them.
Diario de Navarra, a newspaper local to CA Osasuna, relays that and then waste no time to dismiss it.
Eddie Howe’s side are seriously considering signing him, but Osasuna denies any formal approach for his sale.
Muñoz’s agent Juanma López received interest from several clubs, including Newcastle United. There’s only been verbal contact and no written offer just yet.
The newspaper state: ‘The scenario presented by Newcastle, in any case, is the one that has gained the most traction at this point.’
If and when there’s a formal offer, the Spanish club have an obligation to inform his old club, Real Madrid.
José Mourinho’s new side retain 50% of his rights and also an €8m buyback option valid until July 31st.
Los Blancos are silent as Osasuna haven’t made any communication because there’s no formal offer on the table. Muñoz’s wish for future also needs to be taken into account.
No progress until there’s a written offer
Real Madrid have the final say on whether to activate the buyback clause or profit from his sale.
There won’t be any decision or movements until Newcastle United or any other club table a written proposal.
Víctor Muñoz managed seven goals and five assists from 36 matches this season. With a contract until 2030, Transfermarkt value him at €30m.
