“I’ll go back to the club that’s in my heart” – Richarlison on Tottenham to Everton transfer

Richarlison has made his feelings about his Tottenham future very public, and he has left little doubt about what he wants next.

The striker took to his Instagram with two lengthy messages about his situation. He confirmed he wants to return to Everton if the clubs find an agreement.

There’s also a clear warning in there. Richarlison doesn’t want anyone else making decisions about his future.

It’s hardly the first time the Brazilian has gone public when he feels something needs clearing up. This time, though, the timing makes it spicy.

Richarlison sends clear message over Tottenham exit

Richarlison started by referring to difficult experiences over the past few years.

“After everything I’ve been through over the last few years, I decided that I would NEVER AGAIN let other people decide my future for me.”

“I’ve been through a lot of bad things during that time, and almost all of them happened because of decisions made by other people. Pressure, threats, retaliation – none of that scares me. I’ve been through worse… believe me!”

It’s worth being careful with them, though. Richarlison doesn’t say who supposedly applied that pressure or made threats. He doesn’t directly accuse Tottenham of doing any of those things. What he does address directly is his relationship with Spurs.

“I’ve always made it clear, at every opportunity, that if I were to leave for somewhere else, it would also have to be good for the club.”

“If it wasn’t, I would never accept it… just like I didn’t accept leaving when everything here was falling apart and they needed me.”

“I stayed and gave everything I had. So I hope they deal with my situation with the same respect I’ve always shown Spurs and everyone who has worked with me during this period. Just don’t try to decide for me.”

So Richarlison is happy to leave and has already made that clear. What he isn’t happy with, judging by this message, is how somebody has been trying to manage that exit.

A few minutes later, Richarlison returned with another Instagram story. This one left absolutely no mystery about Everton.

“If Spurs and Everton reach an agreement, I’ll go back to the club that’s in my heart. My intention was to return to the place where I was very happy.”

“The problem is that the negotiations were being handled the way other people wanted them to be, and that’s not going to happen anymore.”

So, from Richarlison’s side, the door to Everton is very much open. There does appear to be some frustration over the process, though. Again, he doesn’t explain exactly who he is unhappy with or what has happened behind the scenes.

Richarlison also made sure his message didn’t amount to him walking out on Tottenham.

“Despite all this turmoil, I’m under contract with Spurs and I’ll be available to the club.”

Well, he’s publicly pushing back against how his future has been handled and openly declaring his desire for Everton. Yet if the move doesn’t happen, he’s also telling Tottenham he’ll be there.

Also, several reports had suggested Richarlison was the one holding up the whole deal between Tottenham, Everton and Iliman Ndiaye. The player himself is now making it pretty clear he sees things differently. As far as he’s concerned, the problem lies somewhere else in the negotiations.

For a player who has never been particularly shy about explaining his side of a story in public, this is another very Richarlison way of clearing things up.
