‘Might be just the right fit’ – Newcastle United moving quietly for midfielder

Newcastle United are looking at Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Larsson, as they look to add more to their midfield this summer.

The Premier League side have already signed Sean Steur from Ajax and are on the verge of signing Aladji Bamba.

On Thursday, Sport Witness covered claims from France that Newcastle United agreed a €40m plus bonuses deal with AS Monaco. The defensive midfielder has been given permission to travel for the medical.

Newcastle United interested in another midfielder

Aladji Bamba’s arrival hasn’t blocked Eddie Howe’s side from looking elsewhere, although calmly.

That’s according to Friday’s edition of Bild, who claims the Magpies are moving quietly with their interest in the Sweden international.

Recent claims from England have talked about Newcastle United and Manchester United interest.

Last week, Sport Witness relayed news that Eintracht Frankfurt are calm about his future.

Summer exit not ruled out

In March, Hugo Larsson said he wants to try something new, but Bild now explains the German club expect him to stay.

There has been no sign from his agent of pushing to leave this summer despite talks with clubs in England and Spain. The 22-year-old also feels comfortable at Eintracht Frankfurt, where new manager Adi Hütter is in constant contact with him.

Despite a lack of concrete movements, Bild are refusing to rule out a move.

That’s because Newcastle United are moving “quietly”, after losing Sandro Tonali.

They could also see Bruno Guimarães leave for Arsenal.

Bild states: ‘A player of Larsson’s calibre, who was dropped from the Swedish squad shortly before the World Cup, might be just the right fit for Newcastle, as they particularly need to strengthen their midfield.’

He has a contract until 2029, and Transfermarkt value him at €28m. Despite a mixed season, the Bundesliga side won’t let him leave cheaply and are looking to collect €40-50m.

It’s unclear whether Eddie Howe’s side intend to make further advances, especially with Aladji Bamba’s impending arrival.
