“On the radar” – Manchester United player targeted for summer move

by · Sport Witness

Napoli are continuing to monitor Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo ahead of the summer transfer window.

The update comes from Italian journalist Luca Marchetti. He reports that Mainoo remains firmly on Napoli’s radar as the club prepares for potential midfield changes this summer.

Speaking on Radio Marte’s Forza Napoli Sempre, Marchetti confirmed that Napoli’s interest in Mainoo remains strong.

“João Gomes is still a target, and the same goes for Mainoo,” Marchetti said, as reported by Area Napoli.

“When you follow certain players and haven’t signed anyone in that area, those profiles remain on the radar for the next transfer window.”

Napoli have been monitoring Mainoo since last year. The Italian champions even explored a January move as Mainoo struggled for consistent opportunities under Ruben Amorim.

Why Napoli’s Midfield Plans Could Open the Door for Mainoo

Amorim’s departure from Manchester United ultimately ended any immediate transfer talks.

However, Napoli continue to monitor Mainoo as they anticipate at least one major midfield change this summer. Marchetti explained the situation in more detail.

“They (Napoli) need to decide maybe Anguissa leaves, and someone who has been talked about in the past could arrive. Either Anguissa or Lobotka, both won’t leave. Napoli need to rejuvenate their squad, but they won’t do it just for the sake of it.”

Any potential move would depend on departures from Napoli first. Mainoo and Gomes appear to be the two midfield profiles under consideration.

Why Manchester United Are Unlikely to Sell Mainoo

The reality, though, is that Manchester Despite Napoli’s interest, Manchester United have no intention of selling Mainoo this summer.

Mainoo struggled for minutes under Amorim but has enjoyed a significant resurgence since Michael Carrick’s appointment on January 13.

He is now a mainstay in the side, increasing his minutes from 380 under Amorim to 540 under Carrick. He has started every match under United’s interim manager.

Carrick has described Mainoo’s partnership with Casemiro in a double pivot as the foundation of United’s improved form.

That progress has not gone unnoticed, and even if Carrick does not remain in charge, Manchester United are expected to view Mainoo as a long-term asset.
