Ole Gunnar Solskjær to Manchester United as covered in excited Norwegian media today
by Sport Witness · Sport WitnessRuben Amorim was shown the door at Manchester United on Monday, which saw some fans suggest a romantic return for Ole Gunnar Solskjær.
The Norwegian is a club legend and in comparison to the Portuguese head coach had a reasonable spell as manager at Old Trafford. A poor run of results saw him shown the exit door in November 2022, and Manchester United still struggle for the success their fans crave.
Obvious candidates for the vacancy have already been pushed forward. Oliver Glasner is chief among those right now, with Enzo Marsesca also in the mix.
As well as a Solskjær return fluttering the hearts of some fans, it’s got the Norwegian press excited.
Tuesday’s edition of VG newspaper has the possibility on their general front page, the front page of their sport pullout, and pages two to five of that.
That should give an idea of the waves the Amorim sacking has caused.
Of course, Solskjær is currently out of a job, and would therefore be able to arrive immediately. Whether he’d accept a caretaker role is unknown.
VG have asked a selection of Norwegian pundits what they think about a potential Solskjær return.
Mixed views on Solskjær return to Manchester United
Ronny Johnsen, a teammate at Manchester United, said: “It is logical that his name comes up in the discussion. He has experience with the club and knows the culture.”
Former Tottenham goalkeeper Erik Thorstvedt added: “It would be unusual for a club like Manchester United, which is used to getting what they point to. I would be very surprised if Ole Gunnar returns. Although I know that many have reminisced about how good they were under him.”
Henning Berg, also formerly of Manchester United, had his say.
“Now the club must adjust again,” Berg said. “At about the same time of the season. And then there will be chaos. Amorim initially did not want to take over in the middle of the season. I don’t think many people think that United is a good place to go right now. But I am absolutely sure that there will be really good coaches who want to go there from the summer onwards.”
Any Ole Gunnar Solskjær return possibility is being grasped in Norway. The media there will surely be trying to get any developments from his camp.
