Manchester United and Aston Villa ‘particularly interested’ in Dutchman – Club will consider initial loan

Teun Koopmeiners hasn’t met expectations at Juventus but has still attracted attention from Aston Villa and Manchester United.

The Bianconeri paid €51.3m plus bonuses to sign the midfielder from Atalanta in 2024. This came after he had impressed across two campaigns in Bergamo.

He never established himself as a regular in midfield. Luciano Spalletti also tried using him as a centre-back last season. While that worked to an extent, the Dutchman never became a regular there either.

Sport Witness have covered how his agent is trying to build out a move to the Premier League. This led to links with Liverpool, who didn’t make a formal approach.

It is Manchester United and Aston Villa who are now in the picture to sign Koopmeiners.

Juve open to initial loan

Calciomercato IT report that Koopmeiners has fallen down Juve’s pecking order further. This is mainly because Douglas Luiz has impressed in pre-season, with the Dutchman now expected to be behind the Brazilian in Spalletti’s eyes.

The ex-AZ Alkmaar captain is now considering his exit. Attention from England is growing. The outlet state Manchester United and Aston Villa are ‘particularly interested’, with Juve keen on earning €30m from his exit.

The Bianconeri also know that this could be difficult. This will lead to them opening up to an initial loan with an obligation to buy, especially later in the window.

The moves ‘are starting to get serious’ for the 28-year-old, who is increasingly out of Juve’s plans.

Our take: Deal will be a gamble

The last two seasons show that Koopmeiners has a very specific use. He thrived under Gian Piero Gasperini because the system brought the best out of his technical ability and allowed him to also operate further forward. This led to him scoring goals and his value increased as a result.

A move to Aston Villa or Manchester United would come with a lot of uncertainties. Beyond his form and tactical problems, it remains to be seen how he would adapt to Premier League football.

Koopmeiners needs to be the main man at his next club and the two English sides may not offer that right now.
