Fears Leeds United purposely holding up transfer – New offer doesn’t help

Torino have been pursuing a move for Leeds United’s Lucas Perri and there are growing fears the Whites are now holding up the transfer.

For weeks, the Italian club were sure that the deal would go through eventually. They agreed personal terms with the Brazilian, who is desperate for game time in the upcoming campaign.

Sport Witness have also covered how Torino have been optimistic about a medical being imminent, however, it hasn’t happened yet.

These delays are increasing the anxiety, and the interest from Marseille has complicated the situation further.

Belief Whites delaying transfer

Today’s print edition of TuttoSport covers Torino’s stance on the deal. While they are still confident they will sign the 28-year-old, the Serie A side remain alert and cautious to developments around Perri.

The keeper has expressed his willingness to join and this is the reason Torino feel they have their man. In the background, Leeds United are believed to be purposely holding up the transfer.

The newspaper suspects this is because they’re looking around for better offers, especially as Marseille are interested. This pressure has led to Torino making a new approach, in an attempt to reach an agreement with the Whites.

Initially, Torino offered a €1m loan fee with the option to buy of €12m. They have now raised it to €14m but despite that, Leeds United haven’t budged.

So far, Marseille have only offered a dry loan and there is a chance Daniel Farke’s side are waiting for them to make another approach.

Our take: Leeds want best offer

Leeds United paid around €16m to sign Perri from Lyon last summer. While they didn’t use him in the second half of the season, they know he still has a reputation in the market as a reliable keeper.

That is something Leeds United want to take advantage of and earn as much as possible. They are also possibly trying to avoid a loss, as Perri’s stock is still high.

While annoying for Torino, it is a sensible strategy from the Yorkshire club.
