Courteney Cox and Snow Patrol’s Johnny McDaid split after decade together

by Sam Warner · NMECourteney Cox and Snow Patrol member Johnny McDaid have separated after more than a decade together.
The couple first started dating in 2013, getting engaged shortly after before calling it off in 2015, later reconciling but remaining un-engaged. According to People and the Daily Mail, the couple have now decided to split up, having last been photographed together in September 2025.
Back in 2024, Cox revealed that their initial split in the mid-2010s took place during a therapy session, sharing on Minnie Questions with Minnie Driver: “So three years in, we broke up and it was really intense. We broke up in therapy. I didn’t know it was coming, whether I should have or not.”
She added: “He just broke up within the first minute. And I was like, what? We were engaged and I was so shocked. I was in so much pain.”
“He wasn’t trying to surprise me. He was in that much pain in the relationship. There was that much that needed to be dealt with that he had to protect himself around his heart.”
Recalling the impact on herself, the actress shared: “I learned how to reclaim my voice, boundaries. What were my motives in life? Like, what was my part in this?”

She admitted that she was “so thankful for that breakup”, because when they got back together, “it was a different relationship, but also because it really taught me how I operated in the world”.
Before their planned wedding over a decade ago, McDaid’s collaborator Ed Sheeran expressed a wish at the time to officiate their nuptials.
Sheeran revealed a few years ago that he pranks the Friends star every time he goes to her house, ordering gimp masks on her Amazon Alexa device each time she is out of the room.
“Unbeknownst to me, Courteney’s assistant found it,” he told The Late Late Show with James Corden in 2021. “She opened the post and she finds this mask and instantly goes, ‘Oh, I don’t think I was meant to see that’ and leaves it on Courteney’s bed. And Courteney comes up, and she’s like, ‘Where did this come from?’”
He added: “Anyway, she found out the story, and now every time I go back there, I order her another gimp mask. And she has maybe 12, and then, I hide them in people’s bedrooms. So they’ll go in a drawer, and they’ll just find this leather S&M mask.”
Elsewhere, Snow Patrol are in the middle of a UK and Ireland tour, which includes a huge show at London’s Crystal Palace Park on July 3. You can find any remaining tickets here.
