Marshals: A Yellowstone Story hasn't even finished airing its first season on CBS and Paramount+, but season 2 is already greenlit.

This in itself is something of a miracle. When Kayce Dutton's (Luke Grimes) desire to leave the ranch and join the US Marshals kicked off the Yellowstone spinoff series in March, fans quickly complained about its generic police procedural formula.

There have been a few less subtle nods to the main Taylor Sheridan series in the interim, but nothing has truly scratched the surface of what we once had... or at least, that's my opinion.

Perhaps Marshals season 2, which currently has no release date, will dig deeper into what made the Kevin Costner-led Western series so special. But one thing is for certain: Grimes will be returning for "years to come."

Speaking to Radio Times, the actor confirmed, "I mean, I've signed a contract, so I have to do it as long as people kind of watch it for the next, however, many years. But if there was ever a character that I was going to play for 10 years or more, this is the one."

Of course, Grimes is joking about the potential future of Marshals itself — but I think his comments also apply to more Taylor Sheridan shows than it seems.

Grimes continues, "Obviously there are times when I think about it all at once, and I think, ‘Oh, my God, how many more years? And this is crazy, and this is a lot of work.’ But then I remember this is Kayce, so I'm good. I get to be in this beautiful place in the mountains, and it's just awesome. It's all the things I wanted to play as a young actor and as a boy, all rolled into one."
